Residents of South Africa’s most populated province of Gauteng were shook when a 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The tremors were heard across Greater Johannesburg, Pretoria and as far as Vereeniging. Most of the residents were awakened by the tremors.

Today’s earthquake has been recorded as one of the biggest earthquakes to hit the Southern African country.

South Africa has experienced earthquakes with magnitudes above the one that hit today. No injuries or fatalities have been recorded so far.
