Meet The New Joburg Mayor Thapelo Amad

Thapelo Amad is the new Mayor of the City of Johannesburg. Amad is replacing ousted Mayor Mpho Phalatse.

The 42 year old was elected Mayor on Friday after receiving 138 votes from Councillors. Phalatse received 81 votes.

The new Mayor promised to prioritise service delivery, root out corruption, patch potholes and stabilise the City of Johannesburg’s finances.

His other priority, is to look after the people who are Black and poor. Amad promised to supply poor schools with laptops and ipads.

Amad was born in Protea, Soweto thus he knows the struggles faced by people living in such Black communities.
