Former President of Botswana, Ian Khama has said that he is not a fugitive in South Africa since he is not running away from justice.

The former head of state is currently in South Africa. He has been slapped with charges relating to the unlawful possession of firearms in Botswana.

Ian Khama described the charges as trumped up and forming part of the persecution he has suffered at the hands of the Botswana government.

He maintains that all his firearms are licensed and that they are looked after by the intelligence service of that country.

He added that the charges are politically motivated as Botswana’s current President Mokgweetsi Masisi was shown the charge sheet.
