The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande is mourning the passing of scientist, Ndoni Mcunu.

Nzimande sent his condolence message to the Mcunu family. Ndoni was the founder of Black Women in Science.

She passed away while on a vacation at the Cradle of Human kind with her friends. The 33 year old multi-award winning scientist died on Saturday.

The Police told her family of the death citing a gas leak at the accommodation venue as the cause of her passing.

Ndoni Mcunu was currently pursuing her PhD degree in Climate Change and Agriculture at the Global Change Institute at Witswatersrand University.

Nzimande said Ndoni’s death was as sad as the disaster in KwaZuluNatal Province where torrential rains wrecked havoc, killing hundreds and displacing thousands.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
