Zandile Gumede Elected as New Regional Chairperson of Ethekwini

Zandile Gumede was elected as the new regional chairperson of Ethekwini region. She previously served as the Mayor of Ethekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

She won with 219 votes after 395 delegates cast their votes, defeating Thabani Nyawose by about 95 votes.

Themba Ntuli will serve as the Deputy Chairperson, Musa Nciki as the Secretary, Nkosenhle Madlala as Deputy Secretary and Zoe Shabalala as Treasurer.

Gumede was charged with over 2000 counts of money laundering, fraud and corruption. This is linked to a solid waste management tender worth over R340 million.
