Former Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini has been told to choose between paying R200 000 fine or face four years in prison.

The former Minister was found guilty of perjury in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. She lied under oath during an inquiry into the SASSA grants in 2017.

Bathabile Dlamini is the current African National Congress Women’s League President. There are no details yet to indicate whether she will be resigning or not.

If she chooses the prison sentence, two years of the four year jail term will be suspended for five years.
