PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
The STF may recruit and select candidates who meet the competency profile developed by the South African Police Service Psychological Services and are willing to undergo psychometric and medical evaluations arranged by SAPS SHE Management.

Must be a permanent functional member of the SAPS who has completed their in-service contract.

Applicants must have a minimum of two years of functional experience after completion of basic training and a valid driver’s licence.

Only Constables, Sergeants and Warrant Officers may apply due to post availability.

Be willing to work irregular hours and to be deployed nationally and beyond the RSA Borders.

Should not be under investigation or have been found guilty of any criminal or departmental contravention which may have an implication on the inherent requirements of the job.

Pass Security Vetting Clearance upon processing.

One must not be afflicted with any mental or physical defect, disease, or infirmity that could hinder the proper performance of their functional responsibilities.

One must not suffer from phobias, such as aquaphobia, acrophobia, or claustrophobia, or any fear of heights, among others. (All aspects will be thoroughly tested.)

Candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 35 before the closing date, 2026-06-12.

Be willing to attend and complete the prescribed STF selection and training cycles and pass each Module that enables the member to progress to the next training phase, which will start with a weapon phase (Timeline: +/- 18 months).

The candidates will undergo a secrecy test before the training begins.

APPOINTMENT OF OPERATORS

Candidates who have successfully completed the 18-month STF Training Cycle will be badged and appointed as Operators.

Candidates must be willing to be posted at either the STF Pretoria, Durban or Cape Town. STF Management determines the placement location based on post availability, not the candidate’s choice.

The provincial pre-selection process (the recruitment drive) shall be carried out in four provinces, commencing on 01 July 2026. Applicants are required to report to the nearest testing venue in the provinces of Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
