A sobbing Makhadzi went live on her social media stories to clear her name after she was named as one of the artists who wrongfully benefitted from government funds of the ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture.
This came shortly after thr newly appointed Sports Minister Gayton Mckenzie gave an instruction to release the names of artists, creatives and sports people who benefitted from thr department funds. “They must not cover up people’s names using my name.
I must do what, i must stop talking, i must not respond reply to and protect people who manipulate the whole public, using my name, lying saying I goy money,” she said. This as she revealed that she was receiving many calls from big people who were asking her not to comment on the matter before saying that she can’t keep quiet and watch her name being dragged in the mud.
She revealed that those who had her name on the list were taking advantage of her as they knew she was a quiet person. She added that she works hard for the money she gets, adding, “Even now they are calling- they must reveal the real people who ate thr money from the department.
They must reveal the people who were funded, unlawfully, if i have to die for this, i must die, it’s ok,” she saif amid tears. This as the department published a list.
Among the beneficiaries were Kelly Khumalo, MacG, Somizi Mhlongo, Mohale Motaung and Arthur Mofokate to name a few.
Makhadzi also released a statement clarifying that she had never received or applied for any funding from the department in the past 14 months, adding that she was paid for performing at the Presidential Inauguration. The statement labelled ger inclusion in the list as misleading.
