Ndumiso Nkosi, the cousin of University of Cape Town Vice-Chancellor, Mamokgethi Phakeng, has revealed that she attempted to commit suicide two times in the past and she is now on medication due to the issues that she is experiencing at the UCT.

Nkosi told the Sowetan newspaper that he manages Prof Phakeng ‘s social media accounts.

He was responding to a letter that was written by Ncumisa Mayosi to News24 after Phakeng Tweeted that she almost went the Mayosi route. 

Prof Mayosi, the brother to Ncumisa, took his own life in 2018 after experiencing racism at the UCT.

Ncumisa wants Prof Phakeng to stop referring to her brother’s suicide whenever she attempts to make her point.

Prof Phakeng is being investigated over the departure of Prof Lis Lange, who says she left the UCT because of run ins with Prof Phakeng.

The UCT council voted on Sartuday for an external investigation into the departure of staff and govervance issues at the University.
