The Comrades Marathon Association says nine of 74 Comrades Marathon runners who were admitted to medical facilities remain in hospital.

The Association said two of the athletes who were in intensive care units have been taken off ventilators.

Most of the runners suffered from dehydration.

This comes after the announcement that two participants, Phakamile Ntshiza from Pretoria and Mzameleni Mthembu from Durban had passed away.
