Last week MEC for Health in Limpopo Province Dr. Phophi Ramathuba was trending on social media, making headlines following an encounter with a Zimbabwean patient.

Phophi Ramathuba told the patient that foreigners were burdening the South African health system.

She said foreigners must be treated in their countries of origin. Another controversial video of Phophi Ramathuba has emerged.

In the video she was telling the heads of hospital departments not to send people in their 50s and 60s to go and study.

She said the HODs must invest the money in the younger generation since the older workers will be tired and ready to retire thus they can’t contribute much to the system.

Government usually assists the health care workers to further their studies. She said the opportunities must be reserved for those in their 20s and 30s.
