ENCA NEWS reported that the daily norm of tavern goers drinking in their dozens, and liquor outlets spread across almost every street shocked Buffalo City Municipality Officials.

The Officials visited atleast 19 outlets today as part of a community outreach and awareness visit.

The visit comes a week after 21 teenagers lost their lives at Scenery Park’s Enyobeni Tavern in East London, Eastern Cape province.

Community members who spoke to the madia said poverty and unemployment was contributing to such behaviours where people end up indulging in drinking alcohol.

By 2pm, taverns were already busy with people buying and drinking alcohol. It seems like there are more taverns than schools and libraries.
