ENCA NEWS reported that a second case of monkeypox was reported in South Africa yesterday.

The national department of health is calling for vigilance and for those experiencing symptoms to visit the nearest health care centre for help.

Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo told the media that the new patient is a 33 year old from Cape Town who has no history of travelling outside South Africa.

Dhlomo said it is still not clear how these two contracted the disease.

He said it could have been contracted from someone who visited the country and left traces of the disease. Now the department is busy with contact tracing to see if there are no other people infected.
