SABC NEWS reported that TWENTY ONE youngsters lost their lives at Enyobeni Tavern in Scenery Park, East London, in the Eastern Cape province.
While forensic investigations continue, bereaved families of the 21 deceased children who lost their lives at the tavern over the weekend have gathered for a prayer service.
The tavern at Scenery Park, outside East London in Eastern Cape Province has been closed by the Eastern Cape liqour board.
The bereaved families have welcomed the decision to close the tavern. 17 bodies have so far been identified by their respective families. Families are struggling to come to terms with the deaths.
The incident left the families and many people in South Africa traumatised. Amongst the deceased was a 13 year old.
Vuyokazi Ndevu, the tavern owner said the incident is very unfortunate, disturbing and hurtful. Buffalo City Metro Mayor, Xola Pakati said the incident is disturbing and shocking.
