The National Liquor Association learnt with sadness the unfortunate loss of life at a tavern in Scenery Park, East London in the Eastern Cape.

The incident allegedly occurred during the early hours of yesterday morning. This has left the association concerned with noncompliance to permitted trading hours.

Atleast 22 young people lost their lives including a 13 year old. Lucky Ntimane of the Liquor Traders’ council sent a condolence message to the bereaved families.

He told ENCA NEWS that the council is touched with the sad story. Ntimane said young people below 18 years old should not  be allowed in taverns.

He added that Enyobeni tavern in non compliant with the permitted trading hours of the Eastern Cape liquor board.

Ntimane went further to say the council was echoing calls made by parents and the Premier of Eastern Cape Province that this particular tavern must be closed.

He also said liquor traders must not be allowed to trade with impunity thus those breaking the law must close.
