Today South Africa and the World celebrated Youth day. As commemorations continue for the Youth Month, 42 000 young people are behind bars, according to ENCA NEWS.

A young man who stabbed his mother to death said he will live with the guilty for the rest of his life.

He said his time in prison is giving him time to reflect and strive to be a better person.

As part of the Youth Month commemorations young offenders are engaging with pupils to show them that there is no life behind bars.

It has been reported that 66 percent of South Africa’s Youth are unemployed. The struggles are coupled with the country’s poor socio-economic conditions.

Some youths end up engaging in crime and they are sent to juvenile facilities. A total number of 42 800 Youth offenders are behind bars.
