Classes were suspended at Effingham Secondary School in Durban after chaos ensued on Thursday.

One learner at the school was also pointed at with a riffle. Videos shared on social media show learners clashing with the law enforcements.

Classes have been suspended until Monday 28 May 2022. Rubber bullets and teargas was used during the chaos.

It is alleged that the security assulted one of the learners who could be seen being dragged in one of the videos shared online.

KwaZuluNatal department of education MEC Kwazi Mshengu said a two member team has been assigned to attend to the situation of police brutality against learners at Effingham Secondary.
