On Monday a group led by Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux marched to an informal settlement in Pimville to protest against cable theft.

Kgomotso Vincent Diale was picked up from his home by some men who were part of the march to Chicken Farm informal settlement in Kliptown.

The residents were angered by continuous power outages in Pimville Zone 3, 4, 5 and 7 due to cable theft. Diale aged 44 was killed on the day leaving his family devastated.

Diale’s brother told the media that they were notified by those who were marching that a white VW Golf with a Lesotho registration plate, arrived at the march and opened fire at the protesting residents.

Cable theft is rampant in Soweto causing electricity disruption in both parts serviced by Eskom and City Power.
