A police officer in the Eastern Cape was arrested after asking for a bribe to release an impounded vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded on the 8th of April after it was deemed to be instrumental in the commission of a crime.

The vehicle’s owner was arrested by the Matatiele Hawks unit after being suspected of transporting drugs.

The accused person appeared before the Matatiele Magistrate’s Court where he was released on R5000 bail.

A sergeant then told him to pay a bribe of R2000 in order for the vehicle to be released.
