At number 10 is Gokwe, in Zimbabwe, there are reports that mermaids harassed workers installing water pumps at a local dam.
Mermaids are believed to have been seen in Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Islands by Christopher Columbus while he was on his voyage.
At number at 8 is South Island, New Zealand, fishermen thought they found a dead mermaid that was caught on their nets.
It is believed a mermaid was seen back in 1830 in Newark, Scotland. Mermaids are also believed to have been spotted in Kei Islands of Indonesia by Japanese soldiers during World War II.
Other places where mermaids are believed to have been seen are, Kyryat Yam in Israel, South Africa, Kailua-Kona in Hawaii, British Colombia in Canada and in North Cape in Norway.
