At number 10 is Gokwe, in Zimbabwe, there are reports that mermaids harassed workers installing water pumps at a local dam.

Mermaids are believed to have been seen in Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Islands by Christopher Columbus while he was on his voyage.

At number at 8 is South Island, New Zealand, fishermen thought they found a dead mermaid that was caught on their nets.

It is believed a mermaid was seen back in 1830 in Newark, Scotland. Mermaids are also believed to have been spotted in Kei Islands of Indonesia by Japanese soldiers during World War II.
