The troops were deployed in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province to help fight insurgency. Thandi Modise, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans sent messages of condolences to the bereaved family.

Around 1500 South African troops were deployed in Mozambique earlier this year as part of the Southern African Development Community mission following insurgency in Mozambique.

SANDF said its troops came under the attack from insurgency during an ambush around an area east of Xai village. They managed to fight through the ambush but they were attacked again.
