At the age of 21, Decent Mkhombo is the youngest doctor in South Africa. Last week he graduated with a medical degree from the University of Limpopo.
Mkhombo was allowed to skip several grades in his high school education due to his academic excellence. He was allowed to enroll at a medical school at the age of 15.
The young doctor told NewsRoom Afrika that he is grateful to everyone who supported and encouraged him during his educational journey.
He revealed that growing up he didn’t see himself through other people’s eyes.
Because of that he has been the youngest in all his classes. He had to struggle with people looking down on him because of his young age but that did not discourage him.
Mkhombo mentioned that despite him having a medical degree he still respects his family and he does house chores just like what any other 21 year olds would do.
