Longtime Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has bid his farewell to Mamelodi Sundowns after being with the club for ten years.

Kekana could not hold his tears as he parted ways with his teammates at the club’s headqaurters in Chloorkop. He was Sundowns captain for six years.

In 2020 he the 36 year old footballer signed a four year contract extension with the club. Sundowns chairperson Tlhopie Motsepe revealed that they paid Kekana the remainder of his contract.

Kekana helped Mamelodi Sundowns win the CAF Champions League title and the Super Cup in 2016 and 2017 aswell as six league titles in more than 350 matches.

Hlompho Kekana said it was an honour captaining the team. He said he is leaving Sundowns with beautiful memories and that he could not have asked for better teammates than the Sundowns players.

Motsepe aswell as teammates George Maluleka and Kennedy Mweene wished Kekana well in his future endeavours.
