Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane will represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant that will be held in the Middle Eastern country of Israel.

South Africa will not be boycotting the world event, this was confirmed by Miss SA spokesperson Janine Greenleaf Walker.

Mandla Mandela had written an open letter calling for South Africa to boycott Miss Universe. He described Israel as an apartheid state. He called for countries especially from Africa to cut ties with the Middle Eastern country.

In his letter Mandela urged countries of the world to withdraw from the competition and protest against Israel’s daily killings of Palestinians and demolition of the Palestinian homes.
