South African model Louw Breytanbach has won the Mr Gay World title for the country, a first in over a decade. The model who hails from Boksburg in Gauteng has become the third South African to win the Title on this competition since its inception in 2009.

Breytanbach holds a degree in Christian Based Education. He is a presenter and an actor, he owns a theatre centre called LALT House which is an educational facility for community development through art.

Due to Covid-19 this year’s competition was held virtually and streamed on the official Mr Gay World YouTube channel.

The organisers revealed that the objectives of this competition is to find a Worldwide ambassador and spokesperson for the LGBTQIA+. The winner also acts as a role model for the LGBTQIA+ youths as well as representing their rights and issues.


Breytanbach said the LGBTQIA+ community was in need of inclusion, diversity and visibility in societies. He also said there is need to deal with stigmatisation, trans rights and issues around HIV and bullying.

Over 65 countries in the world still criminalise homos-exu-ality and the majority of them are from Africa. His win comes at a time when Somizi Mhlongo is being barred from entering Zimbabwe because he is openly gay.
