Mamelodi Sundowns recently beat Cape Town City 3-2 on penalties when they clashed in the MTN 8 Final. The win gave Sundowns a chance to grab the Top 8 trophy. They had only won this trophy once in 2007.

The trophy is their 20th in the domestic league, followed by Kaizer Chiefs with 18 trophies in the 25 year history of the PSL.

Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango saved the day by saving 5 goals during the penalty shootout. The game had initially ended in draw after a 120 minutes play.

Mamelodi Sundowns are currently on top of the DStv Premiership with four points ahead of 2nd placed Stellenbosch FC.

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have failed to win more than one trophy in the past 6 years. Sundowns on the other hand has managed to win 10.
