Bulelwa Mkutukana who is popularly known as Zahara could end up in jail after a warrant of arrest was issued on Friday by the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.

The warrant was issued after the Loliwe hitmaker failed to show up to answer to a charge related to her failure to submit her personal tax returns.

Zahara was charged by the National Prosecuting Authority earlier this year for failing to submit her personal tax returns for 2017 and 2018 which is a contravention of the South African tax laws.

After appearing at the same court which is at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court last month, the singer failed to appear last Friday where she was supposed to plead to theĀ  charge in order for the trial to begin.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that a warrant of her arrest had been issued for Bulelwa Mkutukana for failing to appear in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.

Zahara paid a guilt fine of R2000 last month for failing to submit her company Zahara Army’s income tax returns. She was charged in her capacity as the company’s director.

The NPA spokesperson said the National Prosecuting Authority was happy with the outcome of the case involving Zahara as that would send a strong message to those willing to evade taxes.
