Television presenter and sports anchor Robert Marawa unpacked how SABC disrespects its workers. He mentioned Eddy Zondi whose show was taken away from a Monday to Thursday to weekends.
Marawa said Zondi’s ratings during the week were the most of anybody. Zondi had to work double on weekends where he had to host one gig after another with no time to rest.
The sports anchor revealed to MacG that because of this, Zondi passed away. Marawa said the public broadcaster needs to be held accountable.
He said SABC keeps slashing the talent that brings in money because they are not accountable to shareholders or anybody else.
Mawara mentioned another SABC legendary Vuyo Mbuli who passed away some few years back. He said Mbuli’s wife called and said Vuyo’s contract had not been renewed.
Mbuli had been replaced by Peter Ndoro and viewers of the morning show demanded Vuyi back because they did not want people who speak English only on the show.
Marawa said when Mbuli passed away, SABC claimed him as if they liked him. He said no broadcaster in the world disrespects its workers as SABC.
