Mamelodi Sundowns soccer star Sifiso Stanley Ngobeni escaped death after a group of thugs hijacked him. The thugs were impersonating police officers. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Midrand.

The group was armed with guns and police bulletproof vests. The thugs took Ngobeni’s cellphone and shoes before driving to Bekkersdal with him on his car.

Ngobeni then escaped in Bekkersdal and he ran for his dear life barefooted. However before his escape the thugs had withdrawn cash from his bank account at a garage.

He was then assisted by people who took him to Bekkersdal police station where he opened a case of hijacking, robbery, and theft.

According to the Sunday World, the police statement shows that Sifiso Ngobeni was driving his Polo GTI with a personalized registered plate “NGOBS 2 GP”.

He was traveling from a training session at the club’s headquarters in Chloorkop. Ngobeni told the police that the four thugs approached him and told him that they were the police investigating a theft of a similar vehicle.

Ngobeni revealed that they took his iPhone 8, before withdrawing money from his bank account. He said he does not know how much exactly was withdrawn because his daily limit is R20 000.
