Minenhle Makhanya is at the center of former president Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home renovations which were overseen by the Department of Public Works at a cost of R246 million.

Efforts are underway to recover R155 million from Makhanya. Makhanya was an architect involved in the upgrades of Nkandla private residence.

A trial involving Minenhle Makhanya has heard details of how air conditioning in three private areas cost R4 million instead of an approved R150 000.

The Special Investigating Unit’s Special Tribunal hearing, at the Pietermaritzburg High  Court now has evidence from one witness.

The Tribunal has heard of how R8.8 million was used for the tarring of the two roads leading to Zuma’s private residence. However records show that the cost was put at R98 000.
