Newly elected Johannesburg Mayor, Jolidee Matongo has died in a car accident after campaigning with President Cyril Ramaphosa this afternoon.
According to social media reports, Matongo was with President Ramaphosa and Premier David Makhura earlier in. The day.
The swearing in of Matongo was mired in controversy after some political parties claimed that he was Zimbabwean.
Matongo replaced the late mayor, Geoff Makhubo, who died on 9 July.
