The late Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu inherited the throne following the death of his father King Cypran Bhekuzulu in 1968. Zwelithini left behind 6 wives and 28 children.

His first wife is Sibongile Dlamini, they got married in 1969 and his third wife is Queen Mantfombi Dlamini, they got married in 1977 and she is the mother of the current Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini.

Misuzulu became King because his mother was from a Royal family. She was the sister of King Mswati III. When Goodwill died, Mantfombi was appointed as the regent.

It is believed that she was poisoned and her first born son Misuzulu took over. Goodwill’s first wife Sibongile and her two daughters are not happy with Misuzulu’s appointment.

On the other hand Prince Simakade is now eying the throne even though he had previously pledged his support for Misuzulu. Simakade is the oldest son of the late Zulu King.

Simakade was born out of wedlock when Goodwill was not even the King and now he wants to dethrone Misuzulu. He was raised by Queen Mantfombi.

His critics said Simakade could have been appointed King only if Queen Mantfombi had culturally adopted him and if she had no children of her own.
