Supporters have expressed sadness over the passing of Zanele KaMagwaza Msibi. It is believed that she was admitted to the hospital last week before she passed away yesterday.

The NFP Secretary General Canaan Mdletshe confirmed that Zanele KaMagwaza Msibi died at the Umglanga Hospital in Durban at the age of 59.

It is believed that she passed away from heart complications. In 2014 she suffered from a stroke, she had joined parliament as the deputy Minister of Science And Technology.

Many praised her for her role in the liberation struggle and for her ability to form a political party in a male dominated environment.


Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced and her family said the burial will be done according to Covid-19 protocols.

Her friends and family members described her as a formidable and hardworking woman with a soft and caring nature.

She was also the mother of Uzalo actress Gugu Gumede who plays the role of MamMlambo on the popular SABC 1 telenovela.
