CityPress reports that local footwear brand Bathu has distanced themselves from media personality Somizi Mhlongo following allegations of abuse by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.
It is understood that the sneaker makers had a meeting with Mhlongo this week which resulted in his absence from the company’s 28th store opening at Gateway Theatre Shopping in KwaZuluNatal’s City of Durban.
Mhlongo was replaced by DJ Tira and his protégés, Viggy and Virginia Qwabe. Somizi is a brand ambassador who also has a special sneaker line in collaboration with Bathu.
The Idols SA judge was set aside after Bathu founder Theo Baloyi was blasted on social media after he posted pictures of the store boasting fittings with Somizi’s pictures on the walls.
M-Net announced that they gave Somizi Mhlongo some time off from Idols SA to deal with matters involving his personal life. SABC also gave Somizi some time off at Metro FM.
Meanwhile, Mohale Motaung is adamant that Somizi is abusive even though Mhlongo denied the allegations. Motaung revealed that they are going through a divorce.
