The battleground for the Zulu throne was declared in May 2021 as Prince Misuzulu Zulu succeeded his father King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekizulu.

An urgent court interdict and opposition was imposed on King Misuzulu KaZwelithini on live broadcast.

Currently Prince Simakade Zulu and his allies, who are King Goodwill Zwelithini’s siblings are lobbying against King Misuzulu.

This comes after the Zulu Premier Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi had previously declared that the issues of AmaZulu King were sorted.

However there was a dismissal of Buthelezi’s statements that prevents Prince Misuzulu’s coronation as the Zulu King after the mourning of his mother Queen Mantfombi Dlamini who was the regent.

Simakade is saying Buthelezi left out key points in his letter which stated that if called to ascend the throne by the Zulu Royal elders he will surely do so.

According to the Zulu Royal hierachy and succession it is usually the oldest son of the oldest wife who was born in a Royal family and has Royal blood who takes the throne.

King Misuzulu is the oldest son of Queen Mantfombi Dlamini who was from a Royal House, thus the reason why Prince Misuzulu was chosen as King which is not the case for his opponent.

Prince Buthelezi said the late King Zwelithini instructed the Royal family to pay lobola to Mantfombi Dlamini, Prince Misuzulu’s mother, he said this was a sign of approving Misuzulu as a successor.

Prince Simakade was born out of wedlock and that alone nullifies his fight for the throne culturally. However his allies are arguing that the mere fact that he was raised in the Royal House qualifies him as the rightful candidate to succeed his father.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi is adamant that Prince Misuzulu is the rightful King of the Zulu nation.
