The South African Police Services Gauteng Department has been accused of abusing their power after the Mother of the Thembisa 10 Gosiame Sithole was detained by police in the early hours of Thursday 17 June 2021.

According to her lawyer the police kept her against her will and denied her access to legal representation saying they needed to hand her over to the Gauteng Department of Social Development.

She was picked in connection with a missing person inquiry opened by the family of her partner Teboho Tsotetsi. Sithole made headlines last week by giving birth to ten babies.

Her lawyer Refiloe Mokoena said she has been handed over to the Department of Social Development to assess whether she is in a position to give them the statement.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development spokesperson Feziwe Ndwanyana referred all enquiries to provincial government spokesperson Thabo Masebe.

The whereabouts of the decuplets and their state of health remains a mystery. There are no records of the decuplets being born in any of the Gauteng provincial hospitals.
