There was public outrage after the tourism department announced that there will be a ministerial cookoff between Minister Ngubane and Somizi Mhlongo.

This event was supposed to revive South Africa’s tourism industry ahead of the budget vote 2021 held last month but it has now been made public knowledge that it was an epic fail.

The event was held at at a restaurant in Tembisa which sparked outrage as people questioned how the tender was awarded.

The Minister urged those who criticized the event to go and check celebrity cook shows which is a global trend.

Somizi will be a guest on the investigative talk show Checkpoint where he will answer questions about the necessity of the event and whether he was paid for it or not.

According to the Daily Sun the event costed the government R150 000 but insists that it was for other expenses and that Somizi was not paid.

The Ministerial team said Somizi was not paid but the reality tv star is saying otherwise.
