A Gauteng woman arrested last week for hijacking and kidnapping appeared in the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

It was revealed that her real name is Phindile Kunene not Simphiwe Manzini Mtimande.

Phindile Kunene was charged with violating Article 9 of the Oath Commission Act for making false statements under the oath.

Kunene was released on R2000 bail and the case was postponed to June 18 for further investigation.

Kunene was arrested after filing a proceeding at the Protea Glen police station in Soweto after posting on social media about her apparent trials.

In her statement filed with police, she stated that her car had been hijacked by a stranger in Mohlakeng, Randfontein.

Police said a team of senior detectives, members of the Criminal Intelligence Department, and other police response forces worked all night to find the “hijacked woman.”

But they clearly found a contradiction in her statement.

Police confiscated her car and two cell phones.
