Sometime last year hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the Covid-19 lock down will be extended until end of April 2020, Somizi had asserted in an Instagram post that Fikile Mbalula had given him a heads up about the extension.
Somizi apologised to Fikile Mbalula for his joke but Mbalula proceeded to lay charges against him. Dineo Ranaka who was part of the conversation is expected to be a state witness as Somizi was summoned by the National Prosecuting Authority to answer questions in relation to the case.
In a twist of events Dineo Ranaka has given a different view from that of Somizi. Somizi in his application said he was only joking when he mentioned Fikile Mbalula’s name.
Somizi failed to indicate immediately that he was joking when he made the announcement. Dineo couldn’t lie under oath as she could be charged with perjury.
