Former President Jacob Zuma has suffered another major blow as there was a court ruling yesterday that was made against him.

The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein dismissed his appeal in relation to the payment of his legal costs. This was against a judgement which ruled that the state is not liable to cover his legal costs.

The High Court in Pretoria had found out that in 2018, the State was not liable to pay Jacob Zuma’s legal costs. They stated that the costs he incurred were in his personal capacity and he was ordered to pay the money.

Deputy Judge President who delivered the judgement in the Pretoria high court found that the decision by former president Thabo Mbeki and later by President Cyril Ramaphosa for the state to pay Zuma’s legal fees were unlawful and illegal.

Zuma appealed the matter and it was opposed by the DA and EFF. According to reports Zuma is supposed to pay between R16 to R25 million in legal costs.
