Veteran news anchor, Desire Chauke, was reduced to tears on a LIVE SABC news bulletin this week while reading news of the retrenchment of her 600 colleagues.
Desiree could not hold back her tears as she read the news bulletin reporting that it was the last day for 600 SABC employees and this brought her to tears on live television.
She had to ask the producers to cut the broadcast, who obliged to save a potentially embarrassing situation.
Over 600 employees at the SABC were retrenched after the board announced last year that it would undergo a retrenchment process to try and trim its R3.4 billion rands annual salary bill for 3167 employees.
It is not clear if any disciplinary action was taken on Desiree as the SABC did not issue any statement.
