His Majesty the King of the Zulu Nation, King Goodwill Zwelithini has died. The King was admitted in hospital for diabetes treatment.

A statement has been released by the Royal family, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, says “it it with the utmost grief that I inform the nation of the passing of his Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini, King of the Zulu nation”.

He added that the King was in hospital and unfortunately his Majesty’s health took a turn for the worst and he subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning.

The family was hoping that the King will come out of hospital, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi had assured the nation on many occasions that the King was doing well and was responding to treatment.

Last week Friday, Mangosuthu came out and reassured people that the doctors had said King Goodwill Zwelithini was making a recovery. Even her Majesty Queen Thandekile had also been reassured that he was on the mend.

Buthelezi on behalf of the family thanked the nation for their continued prayers and support during these most difficult times.

Our condolences to the Royal family, the Zulu nation and South Africa as a whole, may the Royal family be comforted during these trying times.
