City Press reports that popular gqom singer, Babes Wodumo (Bongekile Simelane), is being sued for using a beat which was given to her record label, Westink records, for other purposes.
The beat in question is for the song Intombi yesgebengu.
Producers, Distruction Boyz, say they own the beat and Westink had no right to use it without their permission.
Distruction Boyz told City Press that they approached Westink and asked them to pay R50 000 for the beat or alternatively pay R10 000 for rights to the beat and then grant them one track with Babes Wodomu on a future track.
Westink failed to meet the demands after being given a week to respond.
In response, Westink Manager, Sbu Ncube, said Distruction Boyz lack an understanding of how the music industry works.
He told City Press that they offered them 50% ownership of the song but Distruction Boyz had already approached a lawyer.
Distruction Boyz is made up of Thobani “Que”Mgobhozi and Zipho “GoldMax” Mthembu and is managed by Magnificent Tshabalala.
